Gurggupeli is a fast-paced 2D sidescroller platforming game made using the Godot game engine. The aim in making the game was to combine Celesteβs well known platforming mechanics with Hollow Knightβs metroidvania environment. The game is made using Godotβs built-in scripting language GD-script.
The game is constructed using pixel graphics due to them being easier than most art styles. We also thought that pixel graphics were the most suitable for the type of game that we sought. The playable character is a cucumber inspired by Rick and Mortyβs βPickle Rickβ episode. The game is set in a dystopian overgrown sewerage where flora has been let to thrive without human interaction. In addition to flora, there are signs of human remnants such as cans or graffiti.
The game is unique compared to other Metroidvania games due to the extensive and difficult platforming that it offers. Other noteworthy elements of the game include enemies which are built to fit the fast gameplay and the gameplay enriching puzzle elements.
